“Antiquarian books" generally refers to all types of "old books”, "rare books" or "antique books". Collecting antiquarian books combines the appreciation of great literature, art and historic memorabilia. You can collect antiquarian books for pleasure and investment, most collectors find both. Careful buying and selling can reap great rewards and allow you to grow your rare book collection. Antiquarian book collectors often specialize in particular subjects or periods of history. This is recommended so in that way you can become quite knowledgeable and an expert in particular areas. This will help you in your pursuit of rare book treasures and give you the edge over more general antiquarian book collectors.

If you want to find antiquarian books, that's the place in the Rive Gauche...

coming up tomorrow, June 26th, will be the 16th annual Cooperstown Antiquarian Book Fair, an event that I organize each year with Willis Monie, my friend and local Cooperstown bookseller. . . . .

the fair is held at the Clark Sports Center on Susquehanna Avenue in Cooperstown NY, from 10 am to 4 pm, and is sponsored by the New York State Historical Association. . . . admission is $3.00, NYSHA members free. . . gate receipts are donated to NYSHA

the fair brings together dozens of booksellers from throughout the northeast who specialize in out-of-print, used & rare books, maps, prints and paper ephemera. . . . the link for the fair's web site, where I've listed the dealers and their specialties is: sites.google.com/site/cooperstownbookfair/

if you're within easy driving distance of Cooperstown, and would like something interesting and fun to do tomorrow, come on by. . . . . I'll be in booth #1 -- stop & say hi

More of my favourite things...

For once I actually wrote down what I did with the Florabella textures and actions. I'm sure no-one is interested, but for my own sanity, I'm putting the 'recipe' here:
Allure (warm) - 79% overlay
Worn Linen (warm) 38% overlay
Cherish (cool) 53% overlay
Tea-stained 52% overlay
Then I ran Tints and Hazes in the B&W action player, et voila!

(Oh - I also erased almost everything from the vase as I went along, because I wanted to be able to see it! Now I think it looks a bit silly, so I might change the photo for one where everything has been covered in textures!)

Memento Mori

Memento Mori

Got the mask in Venice many years ago. I love the 'skull beneath the skin' look of these things. The mask seems to belong on a pile of antiquarian books, which is where it always lives.

From Wikipedia: Medico Della Peste (The Plague Doctor)
The Medico Della Peste with its long beak is one of the most bizarre and recognisable of the Venetian masks. The striking design has a macabre history originating from 16th century French physician Charles de Lorme who adopted the mask together with other peculiar sanitary precautions while treating plague victims. Traditionally the full face mask is white consisting of a hollow beak and round eye holes covered with crystal discs creating a bespectacled effect.

Today, the masks are often more decorative. The doctors who followed de Lorme's example wore the usual black hat and long black cloak as well as the mask, white gloves and a stick (to move patients without having to come into physical contact). They hoped these precautions would prevent them contracting the disease. Those who wear the 'plague doctor' mask often wear the associated clothing. The popularity of the Medico della Peste among carnivale celebrants can be seen as a memento mori.

Think I put the Speedlight on a table, lower right of the photo as you look at it, pointing to the upper left.
